This series of  work completed in 2006, continues Sam Fleming's preoccupation with the inevitability  of transition. It documents a struggle with the  ghosts of history and  a release from the notion of inevitability. The work makes reference to scratched strips of  movie film and the stations of the cross. Each panel measures 240 x 120 cms and contains a single white shirt   ritualistically  covered with paint, photographic transfers  and industrial abrasives. Words and symbols are scratched  into the surface of these materials. The panels are designed to be exhibited as a  continuous sequence.
